Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving may teach us about Plymouth Rock, the Pilgrims, and the Indians, but the only thing anyone remembers about the holiday is the epic feast. And that’s because this is more than just a meal; this is an event planned months in advance and attended by the whole family. When the big night finally arrives, we sit around a long table answering personal questions from aunts, uncles, and cousins we hardly know and stuff our faces with dry turkey, cement-like stuffing, and sliced cranberry still in the shape of the can it came from. Following tradition, we go around the table and describe something we’re thankful for. While we’re usually stumped about what to say, the rest of the family happily offers up bad jokes and alcohol-assisted revelations that make everyone uncomfortable. But as we finish the meal, it becomes obvious what we’re most thankful for: that the next Thanksgiving feast is a distant 364 days away.
